Today I offer you a small summary of the light tire tests
carried out recently. My previous test of tires
between the 23/25 mm sections had not given much for the improvement
of the climbing performance. This time I chose to test some best sellers
of
The light market with a specially optimized tread:
continental supersonic 23 mm / 160g! continental TT 23 mm / 175 g! Schwalbe ultremo
ZXL 23 mm / 160g. I used a latex inner tube for the rear I buy phone number list Light tires: performance compared this to my standard tire the GP4000s. I
could not help but also compare to
my pair of Svelt wheels equipped with veloflex carbon tubulars. As always same place and gradient at 5.7%! same sunny weather without wind!
As you can see from the summary table! I’m doing
my first 2 climbs with the GP4000s and as already noted the test is
repeatable and gives consistent results. For 70.2 kg climbing! I get 11’30 for 281w and
11’28 for 282w. For more than fifty climbs! the SRM hasn’t budged
a beat. During my visit to SRM/Matsport during the EDT! I was able to discuss
this rather incredible reproducibility with James the salesman and saw the
Boss of SRM. No wonder that on the new SRM Light tires: performance cranksets they can
now certify the well-deserved accuracy of +/- 1%.
In short! I then install the Continental Supersonic and I
also go up to 282w but this time I get 11’24 or 4s gain. Same
for the Ultremo ZXL! 282w but 11’22 or 6s. Not bad! I put the GP4000s back on!
go up to 282w and get 11’28 again.
These light tires therefore seem
To allow some gains of 2 to 3 watts. I’m if someone asks for a refund doing another session on 04/07! this time with the Continental TT
replacing the supersonic. For 69.8kg! riding with the gp4000s! I get 11’16
for 287w! +2 watts compared to a theoretical calculation (like 26/06). With the
continental TT! it’s 11’10 for 288w! or -1 watt compared to the theory.
So this time we have a 3 watt gain between
the 2 tires. The ultramo ZXL gives me a book your list gain of -0.5 watts like 26/06! testing it
twice. Finally! changing everything and putting on my pair of light carbon
Veloflex tubulars! I don’t get better than -1 watt! the same gain as with the
continental TT on an aluminum wheel.
