Speedplay Zero Test

I took advantage of the current terrible weather to do a performance test on my new Speedplay pedals on a home trainer. It’s the zero model at 165g + cleats. My old titanium Iclics had a very damaged support surface and with very unpleasant sensations of Speedplay Zero Test cleat sliding (corrected with the metal reinforcement on the iclic 2 by the way and also on Xpresso…).

For the test I use the sworks 2013 shoes with the speedplay and the sworks 2011 model for the Time. Identical weight and identical construction for the shoes! a slightly thinner sole for the 2013 model. As a reminder! I had tried to highlight gains between very different shoes in terms of Speedplay Zero Test weight but without success. So for this test! the few grams between the two will do the trick. For the overall weight we are also very close.

The iclic at 175g are a bit heavier

but the cleats are lighter because the speedplays need an c level executive list adapter on the 3-hole drillings. So I get a set Sworks 2013 + speedplay + cleats @741g and iclic + cleats + sworks 2011 @748g! Negligible! For the height in relation to the pedal axle we arrive at 12 mm for speedplay against 13 mm on Time so really close too! The big difference comes rather from the possibilities of adjustments and alignment of the pedal axle with the metatarsus of the big toe.

With the speedplay the adjustment range is greater and that is good because the sworks have the unfortunate tendency to have a drilling too much on the back. With i-clic cleats adjusted fully I could never be centered ecommerce marketing: 33 tips to skyrocket your sales on the axle (7mm). Thanks to the speedplay I was able to correct! that’s always something!

For the test protocol

I am inspired by my previous test which was modeled on the TOP bike test! Warm-up 15 min then 2 min @210w then 3 min@230w (with fan to limit the heating of the motor!) and I take the average watts/hc over the last 2 minutes then I remove the pedals (2 min) and start again 2 min @210w 3 min @230w. Test carried out in 2×45 min of HT! 10 measurements or 5 per pedal in total. As a reminder! this book your list one had not demonstrated anything between rxs and iclic . In the measurement table of the magazine! the zero speedplays were between the 2! so I did not expect much either! To limit the cardiac drift! I put myself at the I2/I3 limit or 230w! a pace that can be sustained for almost 5 hours for me! so a certain margin to do tests over 5 min.
