A month away from my first goal, the Time Megève, it’s time to take stock of my traditional form and training methodology used so far. As a reminder, in 2012 I tried an EPI approach to improve my threshold performance. The latter didn’t work for Time Mégève 2013: me at all. I was doing very well on efforts of 6 to 10 minutes but then I couldn’t hold the critical power. Coupled with a month of April/May where I fell ill twice for 10 days, I had a very average Time 2012. This year, we all hit rock bottom weather-wise for winter preparation. Eastern France holds the sad record for cold (-4°C) and days without sun in France.
We can’t say that the weather is very stable yet
.. So I tried to change my approach by forgetting the volume (I can’t do long runs at zero degrees…) and only working on intensity from February/March. Learn to ride fast not for long before riding fast for a long time. So work job function email database on Time Mégève 2013: VO2max with fairly long ITs of 5*3min @95% of PMA but also a lot of time in the Sweet Spot Training zone. This SST zone just a little below the threshold (a good I3 therefore), allows to increase the FTP but also to make the body very economical in energy at very good intensity already. Moreover when I go out, I don’t know the freewheel. 3h = 3h in grip with 2 to 3% recovery only: another way to make the session profitable as if I were on HT.
Freewheeling outside?
And with only 4 outings between 3 and 4 hours I am already able to this browser extension provides key metrics maintain 85% of FTP (290w estimated) or 240w to 245w average over 4 hours. Yet I have not done a single long endurance outing this season….Compared to 2012 I have gained 10 watts on my averages. Obviously this approach is reserved for cyclists book your list with experience capable of quickly supporting intensity…. My SV1 must be really high now for me to be able to maintain such high revs without significant breathlessness.
